I love the west wing fandom of 2023. Someone will make a gifset of a 40 year old man standing in a doorway and within minutes it’ll have dozens of reblogs tagged “screaming crying throwing up”

“I like writing heroes without capes, like in “The West Wing,” though it wasn’t just a fantasy. I like writing those stories — and Atticus Finch’s is also an example — because it makes us feel as though greatness is achievable. We’re not waiting for somebody to appear out of the sky and save the world. This is all achievable, and that is something that tends to elevate the human spirit.”

Aaron Sorkin, NYT (March 1, 2020)

“Reading well is one of the great pleasures that solitude can afford you, because it is, at least in my experience, the most healing of pleasures. It returns you to otherness, whether it yourself or in friends, or in those who may become friends. Imaginative literature is otherness, and as such alleviates loneliness. We read not only because we cannot know enough people but because friendship is so vulnerable, so likely to diminish or disappear, overcome by space, time, imperfect sympathies, and all the sorrows of familial and passional life.”

He literally. Literally. Shows up to his old friend's place of employment soaked from the rain and smiles at him through a window and his friend gets up and walks out of his entire life (lucrative job!! finacée!!!! did I mention the fiancée???) and runs away with him. And then five years later he shows up at his friend's place of employment a g a i n and he's like run away with me like last time and his friend tells him he's engaged and he's like I've heard that before and G U E S S W H A T he fucking runs away with him again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All of this textually happens in The West Wing (1999-2006) a show about American politics. This is literally what happens.

#hell yeah and im rewatching#and not to mention this is what he thinks about as hes almost maybe dying#true love baby

@advancedmathperson

Okay yes we need to talk about that part. He's maybe almost dying he has a bullet in his chest and he's mumbling that he needs to get to New Hampshire and his best buddy shouts "Josh, I'm here!" and says "You went to New Hampshire. We both did. You came and got me." and then he remembers asking his buddy to run away with him to New Hampshire.
